Fellowship opportunity at CEU-IAS

Senior and junior fellowships  CEU - Institute for Advanced Study

The CEU Institute for Advanced Study (CEU-IAS) invites applications for its core fellowship program for the academic year 2012-13. 
Both senior and junior level scholars (maximum 6 years post PhD) are welcome to apply. 
Fellowships are available in all areas of the social sciences and humanities. Scholars reside in Budapest during their 9-month fellowship year and pursue independent research in an environment conducive to focused scholarship.

Qualifications, experience:
- Fellowships are highly competitive and fellows are chosen through a rigorous selection process.  The Selection Committee will primarily consider the quality of the research proposal as well as the applicant’s proven track record or promise of scholarly productivity.
- Fellows must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in the social sciences or humanities at the time of their application.
- CEU graduates and employees are not eligible to apply for 6 years after the ending of their studies/contract.

Identities in Motion – New Visual Media Strategies
Hosted by the New University of Lisbon and the University of Coimbra
Organised by the NECS Graduate Workshop Committee

The contemporary mediascape encompasses new visual media strategies which play a central role and give birth to a number of innovative identities in motion.
The workshop aims precisely to explore these strategies, focusing on their specificity, their developments and intersections.
New visual media strategies include, but are not limited to:
- Representation strategies
Alternative ways of introflection/ extroflection of memory, identity, Self (in films, FB, Youtube, etc.).
- Aesthetic strategies and format issues
Experimental cinema, new audiovisual or traditional a/v production for an innovative use or distribution; intersections across the visual arts.

Internship - German Marshall Fund of the United States

Institution:

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a non-partisan American public policy and grant making institution dedicated to promoting greater cooperation and understanding between the United States and Europe. The GMF does this by supporting individuals and institutions working on transatlantic issues, by conveying leaders to discuss the most pressing transatlantic themes, and by examining ways in which transatlantic cooperation can address a variety of global policy challenges. Founded in 1972 through a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance, GMF maintains a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, DC, GMF has seven offices in Europe: Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara and Bucharest.

Work description:

The Bucharest office is seeking for a young academic enrolled at Master level for Political Science or International Relations with a focus on foreign policy.

The internship will cover both research and event management, i.e. following events in the Wider Black Sea Region, research on issues of relevance to the region and to GMF work, conceptualizing, planning, execution, support and wrap-up of conferences, lectures and workshops concerning various aspects issues. Prior experience in this field would be a plus.

The applicant should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a small team. 
Fluency in both English and Romanian is required.

The individual is expected to:

• Produce weekly country and issue briefs, for countries and issues of relevance to and interest for GMF in the Black Sea region;
• Assist in grant making
• Database entry and maintenance
• Managing production and implementation of in-house mailing projects;
• Providing administrative/clerical support;
• Maintaining filing systems; and
• Other duties as assigned.

The position is unpaid. At the end of the internship program the intern will be provided references and a certificate which will attest the completion of the program.

2012 Spring European Diplomacy Workshop

The European Diplomacy Workshop (EDW) is a biannual, skills focused workshop and seminar program at the European Academy of Diplomacy. It is designed to bring participants up to date with important European and regional issues and provide expert level skills training in public speaking, presentations, negotiations, and debate.
The European Diplomacy Workshop is a forum for exchanging experiences and enhancing cooperation between young leaders from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East by giving participants opportunities to broaden their EU and regional specific knowledge and acquire and practice essential skills necessary for shaping the modern world.
The EDW is a specialized program, which educates participants in European Union structures of diplomacy and creates a greater capacity for understanding and influencing EU foreign policy.
Designed specifically with young leaders and civil servants & public administrators in mind, it regularly attracts representatives from both within and outside the EU and from a wide variety of institutions, governmental and NGO alike.
Only the most promising 20 young leaders and an additional 5 Scholarships winners are invited to attend each European Diplomacy Workshop. Group size is regulated to ensure maximum participation and engagement between participants and expert trainers.

7 March - Deadline for Scholarship Applications
After reviewing all the candidates, the top 20 candidates will be notified on 2 April, 2012.

De doua ori pe an, intre 16 ianuarie - 30 iunie si 1 iulie - 30 decembrie, Agentia UE pentru Drepturile Fundamentale (ADF) ofera stagii platite pe perioade de sase luni pentru tinerii absolventi. Agentia doreste sa le ofere stagiarilor sansa de a acumula experienta in administrarea muncii de cooperare in domeniul drepturilor fundamentale la nivel european. In acest fel, stagiarii pot observa din interior care sunt obiectivele si activitatile si pot pune in practica cunostintele pe care le au.

ADF este construita pe baza fostului Centru European de Monitorizare a Rasismului si Xenofobiei si ofera asistenta si expertiza Uniunii Europene si statelor membre pe probleme de drepturi fundamentale. Scopul este de a le oferi sprijinin pentru ca acestea sa respecte drepturile fundamentale, in momentul in care iau masuri sau deruleaza actiuni.

Stagiarii primesc o bursa lunara de 1000 de Euro. Stagiarilor selectati li se vor deconta cheltuielile de calatorie la inceputul si la finalul stagiului. Stagiarii cu dizabilitati pot primi un supliment la bursa initiala de pana la 50% din valoarea acesteia.

University of Southampton’s ESRC Doctoral Training Centre

The inter-disciplinary Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law (CISRUL) at the University of Aberdeen will offer a number of 3-year PhD studentships starting 2011-12. The studentships will include full fees (UK/Europe or overseas) and may include partial maintenance.
We welcome applicants from anthropology, cultural and literary studies, history, legal theory and socio-legal studies, philosophy, politics, religious studies, sociology and theology.

Note that applicants must hold or be close to completing a postgraduate Masters degree in a relevant field.
